The "Brera District"in Milan

Brera is located within walking distance from the Duomo square, the heart of the city.

It will take just a few minutes to move from the noisy, crowded center to the atmosphere of quiet streets with picturesque shop windows and cozy cafes.

The Milanese consider the Brera district to be one of the most beautiful areas in the city.

The name Brera probably comes from the word braida - uncultivated land.

This area was once outside the Roman walls and some street names have survived from those times, indicating the features of the landscape.

Some streets and alleys are named after the medieval patrician families who lived here.

This is a completely different Milan, different from the ceremonial mansions framing the central streets of the historic center. Here you will find several very old churches, the chapels of which were decorated back in the 15th century by orders of rich and noble families of the city.

This is the area of the muses of art, great composers and artists visited it and lived here.

The pride of Brera are the Art Gallery, the Academy of Fine Arts and the National Library. Here you can also stroll through the ancient Botanical Garden.

On its streets, that combine both light and dark colors, there are many restaurants fit for every taste.

A walk through the Brera district will be a pleasure at any time of the year!
